I don’t watch The Inbetweeners. I never have before. Okay, that’s a lie; I have watched an episode or two over Dave’s shoulder, but I’ve never really sought it out. But when it was a choice between this and that thing with Justin Timberlake, I was easily going to go for the four geeks set loose on a Greek island!
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!
Probably shouldn’t have been a cert.15, but I can see why they did it. The target audience is all those people who watch the TV show and producers, I’m sure, needed to be certain that they would be able to get into the cinema.
For those of you who don’t know what’s going on; four lads, all geeks, finish school (sixth form) and decide to go on holiday. They all make a pact before they leave that they are going to have the time of their lives filling the holiday with sex, booze, sex, alcohol, birds, sex, babes, sex, drinking, sex, puking, sex… and you get idea.
Classic adolescent boy shopping list of holiday fun; set loose and freed from Mum and Dad’s watchful eye for the very first time.
There were a few touching moments and plenty of laughs and also a couple of places where I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing/hearing. Then again, I feel like that just walking through city centre some nights and listening to the conversations of the students. Somewhere along the lines I got older than them, but when I say older I don’t’ just mean my age. I’m talking about what’s funny and what isn’t, what’s acceptable and what needs to be toned down. Its changed, but I’m in the fortunate position of being close enough to those days of my life that I can remember what it was like an appreciate it. Not the adolescent boy part, but how funny they can be.
Definitely watch this film if you like The Inbetweeners (I’m surprised you haven’t’ already!), and if you enjoyed things like American Pie or Van Wilder. They’re the same sorts of films – ish – but this is English. So its smarter, ‘classier’ humour too. Except for that bit at the end with the shit on that dude’s nose. I mean… ew!
